Rolf Lamers

Rolf Lamers (born July 8, 1927 in Sterkrade - Hiesfeld (today Oberhausen ), † October 17, 2016 in Lahnstein ) was a German athlete and specialist in the middle distance of 1500 meters.

Life

Lamers was in what was then on July 8, 1927 Stadtkreis born Sterkrade (district Hiesfeld). Already in his youth he won many victories. Lamers spent the last years of the Second World War with the Reich Labor Service in Leer . After the end of the war he returned to Oberhausen and attended a police school in Düsseldorf . Then Lamers worked as a constable and lived with his wife in Dinslaken . The couple later lived in Lahnstein .

Sporting successes

In 1947 Lamers joined the Rot-Weiß Oberhausen (RWO) sports club . This was followed by memberships with SuS 09 Dinslaken , PSV Borussia Düsseldorf and SpVgg Sterkrade .

In 1948 he ran the 1500 meters in a time of 4: 02.0 minutes and improved by more than five seconds to 3: 46.8 minutes by 1952.

Karl Grünsfelder , Heinz Hoewner , Rolf Lamers and Willi Klömpken ran a new German record of 4 x 1500 meters with a time of 16: 01.2 minutes in a club fight against DSB Düsseldorf on July 6, 1950 .

On August 5, 1950, he was German champion over 1500 meters in Stuttgart in 3: 53.8 minutes ahead of Ludwig Warnemünde and Heinz Laufer . In 1952 in Berlin , Lamers was third behind Werner Lueg and Günter Dohrow over this distance in 3: 47.4 minutes . A year later, at the German Athletics Championships in 1953, he finished second over 1500 meters behind Werner Lueg and ahead of Olaf Lawrenz .

At the Summer Olympics in Helsinki in 1952 , he was sixth over 1500 meters with a time of 3: 46.8 min. Lamers took over the management work from the start, so that Werner Lueg could spare himself for the final spurt. This replaced him after 1000  meters and won bronze.

At the German Indoor Athletics Championships in 1955 and 1957, he was third in the 1500 meter run behind Klaus Retienne and Werner Bumann and Alfred Brand and Günther Timm .

On August 19, 1956, Lamers was German champion in the 5000 meter run in Berlin with a time of 14: 20.8 minutes .
