Werner Bumann (born December 31, 1931 in Gronau (Leine) , † December 24, 1986 in Erlangen ) was a German athlete .

Life

Werner Bumann was born on December 31, 1931 in Gronau (Leine) . During his apprenticeship as a carpenter he was already active in the youth department of TSV Gronau, when he switched to the men's department he was trained by Heinz-Werner Otto . Otto recognized Bumann's great talent and made sure that at the end of 1953 he moved to the Turnklubb zu Hannover ( TK Hannover ). There he celebrated his greatest sporting successes. Bumann ended his active career as early as 1960 and worked as a youth coach in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. In Berlin he met his future wife, with whom he then settled in Herzogenaurach . Werner Bumann died of a stroke on December 24, 1986 in Erlangen .

Sporting successes

Bumann achieved his greatest sporting success in 1955 at the German Indoor Championships in Kiel, where he finished second over 1500 meters at the same time as the winner Klaus Retienne and at the German Championships in Frankfurt he was also third behind Werner Lueg and Olaf Lawrenz, also over 1500 meters . A year later it was enough to finish fourth at the German Championships in Berlin over the same distance. Due to the good performance of Werner Bumann as a middle and long distance racer, he ran for Germany on many international competitions, u. a. also in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Belgium. There is even a video document about the Victory Run in Finland (see Commons).
