Werner Lueg (born September 16, 1931 in Brackwede , zu Bielefeld , † July 13, 2014 in Gehrden near Hanover) was a German athlete who won the bronze medal in the 1,500-meter run at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki . On June 29, 1952, Werner Lueg ran a 1500 meter world record in 3: 43.0 minutes in Berlin , in which he equalized the old best performance of Swedes Gunder Hägg and Lennart Strand . He is the only German athlete besides Otto Peltzer who set a world record on this route. Lueg, who lived in Gevelsberg at the time of his sporting successes , had a competition weight of 64 kg with a height of 1.76 m and started for the SF (Sportfreunde) Gevelsberg. He also started for TuS Iserlohn and Barmer TV . He was mostly trained by Arthur Lambert, who favored group training. In 1952 all forms of training of the time met in Germany, so that in 1952 three Germans over 1500 m were represented at the Olympic Games. For his sporting successes he received the silver bay leaf in 1952 .
