A police academy is for police training of law enforcement officials . The facility prepares young professionals for the police profession and trains active officers.

Germany

Since police training in Germany is the responsibility of the federal states , the orientation of the individual police schools in the federal states is completely different. In some cases, there are academies and universities in which police trainees study .

Basic training

Police schools provide practical and theoretical lessons for trainees in their basic training. Focus of the theory are legal subjects such as criminal law , police law , administrative law , traffic law , civil service law , Constitutional Law.

Further main subjects are criminology , police services , leadership and operational training and political education . In addition, foreign languages, electronic data processing and professional ethics are taught.

The practical police training consists of weapons knowledge , radio technology and radio traffic , shooting training, operational training , self-defense , first aid , service sports , driver training and much more.

Overall, the training conveys daily work, athleticism and trained interaction with people.

Switzerland

There are several police schools in Switzerland, the largest being the Hitzkirch Intercantonal Police School. The basic training lasts 10 months, the conclusion is the federal professional examination for "police officer with federal certificate".

Requirements are physical and psychological suitability, a completed apprenticeship or Matura and Swiss citizenship . Interested parties apply directly to the police corps.

The training takes place with full wages.

In addition to basic training, the police schools also offer advanced training modules. Some of the training modules are also open to police administrators.

As a further training goal after the professional examination, the higher professional examination to become a "police officer with a federal diploma " can be aimed for. The training consists of several modules, a thesis and an oral exam. The profiles leadership, specialist and training exist.
