Federal diploma
A federal diploma is a diploma that is awarded by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) to the professions specified after a higher professional examination (HFP) has been passed. The federal diploma is the next higher level of the federal diploma . Fachausweis (FA) , which is issued with a federal professional examination. Holders of a federal diploma may bear the protected title of federal diploma (abbreviation: federal dipl.).
The higher technical examination developed from the master craftsman examination . The training is part of the dual training and takes place part-time. The prerequisite for admission to the examination is usually a certificate of proficiency (EFZ) with a completed BP professional examination (federal specialist certificate) as well as several years of practical experience. Training and examination are practice-oriented and more specialized than a comparable university education. Higher technical exams pursue two goals: On the one hand, they qualify professionals as experts in their professional field. On the other hand, they prepare graduates for managing a company. Individual higher vocational training courses, such as those in the financial sector, do not normally take place in Switzerland - as is usual in other countries - at the university. Every year around 12,000 specialist certificates and 4,000 diplomas are awarded in Switzerland.
