In 1979 Schiwy became head of the East Politics department at RIAS Berlin , in 1981 editor-in-chief for television at Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) and in 1984 director of the RIAS. During his term of office, RIAS 2, which had previously only been broadcast by the hour and was largely a result of the takeover of the 1st program, was expanded into the independent full program of the youth wave rias 2 as one of the first format radios that is widely used today in radio. According to Schiwy, his success, the recognizable irritation of the GDR propaganda radio , which immediately reformatted DT64 as a helpless answer , [...] caused considerations to further strengthen the RIAS's newly gained radiance. One consequence of this was the start of RIAS-TV in 1987 as a breakfast television , which, however, was only conceived as an hourly program from the start. In that year Schiwy moved in the same position to the NDR in Hamburg, whose director he remained until 1991. He became a shareholder in the radio station 94.3 rs2 , which emerged from the privatization of rias 2, and was also managing director there between 1992 and 1994. Most recently, Schiwy was a partner in a law firm and honorary professor at the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer . Since June 2011 Peter Schiwy has been a member of the Foundation Council of the Stiftung Zukunft Berlin .
