Lutz Marmor, former NDR director (2015)

Lutz Marmor (born April 2, 1954 in Cologne ) is a German business economist and former director of the North German Broadcasting Corporation . In January 2008, he replaced his long-term predecessor Jobst Plog . Before that, he had been working for Westdeutscher Rundfunk as administrative director and deputy general manager since August 1, 2006 . From 2013 to 2015 he was chairman of the ARD . Marmor is chairman of the supervisory board of Studio Hamburg .

Life

Marble studied business administration from 1972 at the University of Cologne . Subsequently, from 1978 onwards, he worked as a management consultant for GEBERA “Gesellschaft für Betriebswirtschaftliche Beratung mbH”, which advised on health care facilities. In 1979, Marmor returned to the University of Cologne and worked there as a research assistant until 1982. Lutz Marmor has been working for public broadcasters since 1983. From 1983 to 1986 he worked in the main finance department at Westdeutscher Rundfunk, before taking over the management of the accounting department at WDR from 1986 to 1991. Marble then moved to 1995 as administrative director of the then Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg . After another change, he took over this position at Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) until 2006. During this time, in 2002, Marmor was also head of the KEF office within ARD. In addition, Lutz Marmor took over the chairmanship of the finance committee within ARD in 2003 and 2004.

In 2006, Marmor returned to Westdeutscher Rundfunk as administrative director and deputy director. During this time he also served as chairman of the administrative board of what was then GEZ until 2007 and was a member of the ARD strategy group. After his election as NDR director, Marmor moved back to the North German Broadcasting Corporation. In this function he also took over the chairmanship of the ARD in 2013.

On July 5, 2019, Joachim Knuth was elected as his successor as NDR director, who took up his post on January 13, 2020.

Memberships and functions

He is chairman of the shareholders' meeting of the Civis Medienstiftung and is a member of the foundation board of the BürgerStiftung Hamburg .

Marble is a member of the board of trustees of the German Foundation for Monument Protection .

In 2012 he was a member of the Advisory Board of Deutsche Bank AG .
