Friedrich Wilhelm Räuker (born September 1, 1928 in Bückeburg ; † June 24, 2015 ) was a German journalist and broadcast director .

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Räuker attended grammar school in Bückeburg until 1944 and was drafted as an air force helper towards the end of the war . In 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Americans for a few months . Then he made up his Abitur in Bückeburg and initially worked as an assistant interpreter. In 1949 he began studying philosophy in Göttingen and continued his studies in Bonn and Wilhelmshaven with the subjects of German, history, political and social sciences. He also wrote for the Göttinger Tageblatt . In 1958 he began as a trainee at Radio Bremen , where he rose to become editor and production group leader. In 1963, after a short time as a freelance writer and employee of UFA, he switched to Westdeutscher Rundfunk . There he became department head in 1965 and in 1969 chief department head for education and science in the Third.

In 1975 the CDU member Räuker became television program director of the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR). In 1980 he was elected director of the NDR. From 1984 to 1986 he was chairman of the ARD . After many political disputes inside and outside the station and a heart operation, Räuker resigned in 1987 for health reasons .

Friedrich Wilhelm Räuker died in June 2015 at the age of 86.
