Walter Hilpert

Walter Hilpert (born April 12, 1908 in Plaschken, district of Heydekrug ; † July 10, 1962 ) was a German broadcast director.

Career

Hilpert learned his trade at Ostmarken Rundfunk AG . In 1945 he came to Radio Hamburg, from which the Nordwestdeutsche Rundfunk (NWDR) later emerged. There he was head of the literary word department . On July 1, 1949, he became the deputy director of the Hamburg radio station and was the managing director from July 1, 1951 to September 30, 1951. After the formation of the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR) on January 1, 1956, he was its first director. In 1957 he also took over the chairmanship of the ARD . He decided not to be re-elected and on February 1, 1962, he became the radio program director of the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR). He died at the age of 54.
