The police school

The police school was the first documentary series on the Swiss regional TV station Telebasel . It aired from December 2006 to February 2007.

For one year, cameraman Adrian Baumann and journalist Michael Wieland accompanied the aspirants from the Basel-Stadt police school . The filmic documentation shows the path from the first day of the young police officers in October 2005 to the swearing-in on September 28, 2006. The cameras were there during the shooting training, during the theory lessons or the sports training.

In the canton of Basel-Stadt , around 1,000 people are interested in a job with the police every year - but only around 30 of them make the leap into police school.

From one series to the next

Contents of episode 1

In the first episode, the reporters accompany the aspirant Markus on a 20-kilometer walk on the Kerenzerberg in Filzbach and during the confrontation with everyday police work.

Contents of episode 2

During the trial week, the young Basel police officers are on patrol for the first time. They gain their first experience with personal checks, break-ins and traffic controls. In shooting lessons, the aspirants get to know their weapon.

The aspirans have to play protesters in a demo preparation and perform a pepper spray test.

Contents of episode 4

In the fourth episode, the police students learn to drive in the most adverse conditions and practice rescuing people in the Basel underground. During the internship weeks, the aspirants are with the border police and the emergency train.

Contents episode 5

In the last episode, the reporters report on the abseiling in the Rhine harbor, a 24-hour exercise through the Basel area and the practical tests and the subsequent swearing-in of the police.
