Günther Steines (born September 28, 1928 in Pfalzel , near Trier ; † June 4, 1982 in Ahrweiler , Rhineland-Palatinate ) was a German athlete who competed in the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki with the 4-by-400-meter relay won the bronze medal (3: 06.6 min, European record, together with Hans Geister , Heinz Ulzheimer and Karl-Friedrich Haas ).

For this he received the silver bay leaf on October 27, 1952.

At these Olympic Games he also competed in the 800 meter run and finished sixth in 1: 50.6 minutes.

In 1950 and 1952 Günther Steines was German champion in the 800-meter run, in 1950 and 1954 he won the championship with the 4 x 400 meter relay. He also won five runners-up championships.

Günther Steines belonged to Rot-Weiß Koblenz . In his playing days he was 1.74 m tall and weighed 64 kg. His brother Bert Steines was also a well-known athlete as a 110-meter hurdler.

Günther Steines studied mathematics, physics and sport for the teaching profession and after his active sports career worked as a teacher at the state high school (today Peter-Joerres-Gymnasium) in Ahrweiler , where he last held the position of director of studies. He was married and has two daughters.
