Heinz Ulzheimer
Heinz Ulzheimer (born December 27, 1925 in Höchst am Main ; † December 18, 2016 in Bad Sooden-Allendorf ) was a German athlete and Olympic medalist.
Athletic career
In 1947 and 1948 he won the title with the 3 x 1000 meter relay from Eintracht Frankfurt . In addition, he was German champion in the 400 meter hurdles (1953) and in 1954 first German indoor champion over the 400 meters. Ulzheimer won two bronze medals at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki - in the 800-meter run (1: 49.7 min) and in the 4 x 400-meter relay (3: 06.6 min, with Hans Geister , Günther Steines and Karl-Friedrich Haas ). The medal in the 800-meter run was the first Olympic medal at summer games for a German athlete after the Second World War . Ulzheimer practiced intensive interval training .
At the European Championships in 1954 , he took second place with the 4 x 400 meter relay (3: 08.8 min, together with Hans Geister, Helmut Dreher and Karl-Friedrich Haas).
Ulzheimer's club was Eintracht Frankfurt . Heinz Ulzheimer had a competition weight of 74 kg with a height of 1.78 m.
Honors
For his sporting successes, Ulzheimer received the silver bay leaf on October 27, 1952 . In 1953 he was awarded the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Prize.

Ulzheimer married the sprinter Margot Glöckner (Olympic participant 1952). He became a motor vehicle master craftsman in Frankfurt-Bockenheim . After the end of his sports career, he headed the Sports Museum in Frankfurt am Main, among other things .
He was chairman of the Schlappekicker campaign of the Frankfurter Rundschau , which among other things supports athletes in need.
