West end of Hamborn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SV Schwarz-Weiß Westende Hamborn is a sports club in Duisburg-Hamborn that emerged from mining sports communities .

Formation of the mining sports communities

The formation of the mining sports communities in the late 1920s and early 1930s is closely related to a new company sports concept of the German ironworks .

“On May 24, 1925, a joint meeting of the specialist committees of the Association of German Ironworkers, today's steel institute VDEh , took place in Bonn . For the first time, the outlines of a new company sports concept were discussed in a large context. "

Only a short time after that meeting, an institute was founded in Düsseldorf that was to systematically tackle the solution of this task, the German Institute for Technical Work Training (DINTA). DINTA set itself the task of training the next generation of industrialists, especially with a view to liberating the worker from the loneliness of his isolated partial function in the manufacturing process , overcoming the hostile opposition between employer and employee and liberating and pacifying the worker in the current economic system . Physical education was encouraged for a variety of reasons, particularly with a view to increasing overall productivity.

DINTA in Hamborn

The DINTA concept was accepted by many plants in the Ruhr area . In Hamborn it was the football clubs: SV Bergbau 1/6 Hamborn, SV Bergbau 2/5 Hamborn, SV Bergbau 4/8 Hamborn, SV Kokerei Hamborn, SV Bergbau 3/7 Hamborn and SV August Thyssen - Hütte. The individual businesses were responsible for the sometimes generous material equipment of the clubs. Gyms as well as sports fields, equipment and clothing were made available by the plants free of charge.

SV Mining Hamborn

The registration to take part in the official game operations of the football association in the summer of 1930 became the official founding date of "SV Bergbau Hamborn", which is now followed by the " Sportverein Gelb-Weiß Hamborn eV " and "Sportverein Schwarz-Weiß-Westende Hamborn eV" .

In 1932 there were 34 football clubs in Hamborn, 17 of which had a worker share of over 80%. The mining clubs were merged to form the "Sportverein Bergbau Hamborn" working group, to which SV Hamborn coking plant belonged, with a total of around 3500 members. They joined the sports federations separately in order to take part in championship games starting in the lowest class. The sports of soccer , handball , heavy athletics , track and field , gymnastics , boxing , wrestling , swimming , gymnastics and tennis were offered. A chess and glider pilot department with its own glider completed the sporting opportunities. SV Bergbau 1/6 and SV Bergbau 4/8 probably became Schwarz-Weiß Hamborn in 1932 and the "SV Bergbau Westende" located in Beeck became SV Westende. In the summer of 1948 these two clubs merged to form today's club SV Schwarz-Weiß Westende Hamborn e. V.

Black and white Hamborn

The actual cradle of SV Bergbau 1/6 Hamborn is the former wash house of the Friedrich Thyssen 1/6 mine , today's gym on Duisburger Str. 301a. As early as 1928, a number of athletes got together for regular practice hours, mainly to enjoy the opportunity to swim in the neighboring outdoor pool. There were always "guests" who had to take part in compulsory exercises beforehand, as only athletes were entitled to free bathing. The sports field of SV Bergbau 4/8 Hamborn was on Beecker Strasse (today the Hamborn interchange). The merger of SV Bergbau 1/6 and 4/8 with the location in the area of the 1/6 site was the logical consequence.

Sports club Westende

The club chronicles were destroyed during the war. The sports club was probably founded in 1932 with its sports facility at Rönsberghof (today Viktoria Beeck's sports facility). In 1938 the Westender miners , under coach Mathias Wahl, together with Rot-Weiss Essen , made it into the "Fußball Gauliga Niederrhein "; the top division at the time.

Twice they reached the round of 16 in the German Cup under coach Fritz Gümblein ( 1939 and 1942 ) and the title of Niederrheinmeister in the 1942/43 season. In 1944, the teams from Westende and Schwarz-Weiß Hamborn founded a war syndicate in the Gauliga as the Westende / Schwarz-Weiß association. After the war, the SV West End and went SpVgg Meiderich 06 as West End 06 a syndicate one.

SV Black and White Westende

In 1948, the expediency of a merger of SV Westende and Schwarz-Weiß Hamborn to form SV Schwarz-Weiß Westende Hamborn e. V. recognized.

The headquarters of the large club, which has more than 2000 members, was the sports field on Hufstrasse for footballers and handball players, and the site of the former Friedrich Thyssen 1/6 mine for the other departments. Until the 1970s, the club was known nationwide in athletics. The strengths of the department lay in the pole vault and hammer throw. One of the outstanding athletes and coaches was Herbert Schmidt, who held the world record in pole vault in the M70 age group between 1980 and 2002. Another well-known athlete was Hans Fahsl , who was German hammer throw champion three times in a row from 1961 to 1963. The club was also successful in weightlifting and boxing.

The club lost some sports facilities when the A59 was built .

Today the association has around 650 members in its departments. On July 1, 1994, the club took over the district sports facility on Duisburger Strasse including gyms and the judo / boxing center on Buschstrasse on its own responsibility.

The club's first soccer team has been playing in the Duisburg district league C since relegation in 2013.
