The SpVgg Meiderich 06 (officially: Sports Association Meiderich 06 eV ) was a sports club from the Duisburg district Meiderich . The first soccer team played for three years in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.
history
The club was founded in March 1906 as FC Hohenzollern Meiderich and three years later joined the West German game association . After the end of the First World War , the club took on the name Sportvereinigung Meiderich 06. In 1919 they were promoted to the then first-class Rhenish Northern District League , where the team immediately came third . After the descent in 1921, the immediate resurgence succeeded. In the following years the SpVgg worked its way up and reached the runner-up in Group A behind the SpVgg Oberhausen-Styrum in the 1928/29 season . Four years later, the newly created Gauliga Niederrhein was missed and the Meidericher continued to play second class.
After the end of the Second World War , the SpVgg played in the district class from 1947 and two years later made it to the state league, the highest amateur league on the Lower Rhine at the time. After a sixth place in the promotion season 1949/50 , the Meiderich had to return to the district class two years later. The immediate resurgence was missed after a 0-1 defeat in the playoff against RSV Mülheim . It was not until 1956 that it was promoted to the state league, which was only the second highest amateur league after the Niederrhein association league was introduced. After two years he was relegated to the district class again.
It was followed by runner-up championships behind VfL Hüttenheim and Duisburger SC 1900 , before promotion to the regional league was again within reach in 1960. The playoff against VfvB Ruhrort-Laar , who was tied on points , was lost in the neutral Hamborn with 1: 5. The Meiderich remained a top team and merged on July 29, 1969 with TuS Wacker Meiderich, founded in 1895, to form SpVgg Meiderich 06/95 . This has been playing in the district league since its promotion in 2010.
Personalities
With Kurt Neumann , the game association had a footballer in their ranks who made the move to the prominent neighboring club Meidericher SV in the winter of 1945/46 . He shaped the MSV as a long-time captain and stayed with the club until qualification for the newly founded Bundesliga in 1963.
Unlike Kurt, Erich Neumann , who was not related to him, accepted the detour via TSV Detmold , before his path also led him to Meidericher SV in 1948. He was a member of the league squad until 1958. Meiderich 06 thus had two players in his ranks who made it into the top division before the Bundesliga was launched.
