VfL Duisburg-Süd

The VfL Duisburg-South is one of the biggest sports clubs of the city of Duisburg . It offers football , weightlifting , athletics and popular sports .

The club was founded in 1920 as the gymnastics and lawn sports club Duisburg-Hüttenheim (TURA). It was later renamed VfL Hüttenheim . Between 1940 and 1945 there was a temporary name change to the Mannesmann company sports association .

It was not until many years later that the club was given the current name VfL Duisburg-Süd . For years, VfL was one of the largest sports clubs in Duisburg with more than 1200 members at times. No other club in the city can boast more world records and Olympic victories to this day.

  • Hans Biallas (1918–2009), German football player, national player before 1939
  • Marcel Lenz (* 1991), German soccer goalkeeper, is under contract with Rot-Weiss Essen
  • Rolf Milser (* 1951), German weightlifter and Olympic champion of the 1984 Summer Olympics
  • Nikolaus Schneider (* 1947), German Protestant theologian, EKD Council Chairman from 2010 to 2014, was a goalkeeper at VfL Hüttenheim
