Michel Bégon
Michel Bégon (* 1638 ; † 1710 ) was a French naval officer . The plant genus Begonia was named after him.
Live and act
Michel Bégon was from Blois . He joined the Navy in 1677, where he made a career in the following years. Among other things, he was in command of Le Havre , governor of Haiti and in 1694 in command of the port of Rochefort-sur-Mer . There, the rope works for the warships were made in the La Corderie Royale rope factory, founded in 1666 . Today the building is one of the most important industrial structures of the once flourishing naval and trading base.

The from Marseille native botanist Charles Plumier has the begonia named in his honor.
