Hans Fahsl

Hans Fahsl (born August 15, 1941 in Duisburg ; † August 1, 2017 ) was a German hammer thrower .

Life

Fahsl first appeared nationally in 1959, when he landed on the second place of the German youth best list with a throw of 53.22 m. A year later, a few weeks before his 19th birthday, he was runner-up in Germany for adults. In the years 1961 to 1963 three consecutive German championships followed. Also in 1961 he improved Karl Storch's nine-year-old German record by more than 3 meters with 63.94 m .

After the club change from his hometown club Schwarz-Weiß Westende Hamborn to SV Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 1964, he was overshadowed by Uwe Beyer , who dominated the West German hammer throw from 1964 onwards. During this time, Fahsl was German runner-up seven times, always behind Beyer.

Internationally, Fahsl took part in the European Championships in 1962 and 1966, where he was ninth each time. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, he was eliminated in the qualifying round. In 1968 in Mexico he reached 11th place. He was also three times German champion in weight throwing (1962, 1967 and 1970).

His best performance is 70.79 m, achieved on June 12, 1971 in Bonn .

Fahsl was 1.91 m tall and had a competition weight of 115 kg.
