Helene (Lena) Stumpf (born April 27, 1924 in Leer , East Friesland ; † February 6, 2012 there ) was a German athlete .

biography

Stumpf had studied in Leipzig from 1942 to 1944 . After her active time, she was initially a sports teacher at the middle school in Leer from 1960. She later worked in this position at the Werner von Siemens Gymnasium in Bad Harzburg until she retired in the early 1980s .

Sports

Stumpf started for Germania Leer in 1948 and for Werder Bremen from 1949 to 1951 . After a two-year break from competitions, she joined TV Leer in 1954 and again for Germania Leer from 1955. She won the pentathlon title at the German Championships in 1948, 1949 and 1951 . In 1950 and 1954 she was runner-up in the pentathlon, in 1948 she finished third. In 1948 she became pentathlon champion at the German all- around championships and missed the world record by eight points. In 1949 she was voted Sportswoman of the Year in the Federal Republic of Germany after setting a world record in the pentathlon. At the European Championships in 1954 , she finished fourth in the pentathlon (4336 points; individual performances: 12.48 m - 1.44 m - 25.9 s - 12.2 s - 5.91 m).

In 1950, 1954 and 1955 Stumpf also won the German championship in the long jump , in 1949 she came second. Her personal best in 1951 was 6.01 m.
With the 4 × 100 m relay of SV Werder Bremen, she won the German championship in 1949 and 1951 and the runner-up in 1950.
