Uta Schorn (gymnast)

Uta Schorn (born August 7, 1957 in Leverkusen ) is a former German gymnast .

Life

From 1972 to 1974, Schorn was national German all-round champion in artistic gymnastics three times in a row. In total, she won 14 championship titles, making it the German record holder. At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich , she reached the all-around finals and took 23rd place. In 1973 she won the bronze medal in horse jumping at the European Championships in London , the first ever international medal by a West German gymnast. For this she was voted Sportswoman of the Year in Germany. She is the only gymnast to have received this award, which after her the gymnasts Eberhard Gienger and Fabian Hambüchen twice each in the men's category .

In 1974 she received the bronze Bravo Otto from the youth magazine BRAVO .

Uta Schorn started in competitions for TuS 04 Leverkusen . In 1973 she moved to TV Wattenscheid 01 , with which she became German team champion. In 1976 she took part in the Summer Olympics in Montreal , but did not make it into the all- around finals.
