The following year she reached third place in the heptathlon in the W15 age group at the same championships in Bad Oeynhausen ; together with Carina Frey and Marie Kias Mihambo won the team competition in the heptathlon. In the same year, with Carina Frey, Chantal Berg and Marie Kias, she improved the best German student performance in the 4 x 100 meter relay of the LG Kurpfalz to 47.52 seconds.

In the long jump she exceeded the width of six meters (6.17 m) for the first time at the German B youth all-around indoor championships in Frankfurt am Main in January 2010 and was runner-up in the pentathlon with 3891 points. A year later she won the long jump of the female B-youth with 6.40 m at the German Youth Championships in Jena . 2018 DM athletics

2013 and 2014

In May 2013, now as an A-youth , she reached the cosinus Kurpfalz Gala in Weinheim - at an equally irregular 2.8 m / s - 6.80 m, a greater width than Michelle Weitzel , the winner among the adults. At the European Junior Championships in Rieti at the end of July 2013, she won the gold medal with 6.70 m. A week later she won the long jump title at the German A youth championships in Rostock with 6.60 m. She was then nominated as the youngest team member for the 2013 World Championships in Moscow . After the start of the season in May 2015 and winning the German team championship, Mihambo finished fourth at the Diamond League meeting in Rome at the beginning of June and exceeded the required world championship norm with 6.79 m. In the same month, he won the German U-23 championship. On July 12th, Mihambo won the U23 European Championship in Tallinn, Estonia, with a width of 6.73 m, ahead of Jazmin Sawyers and Alina Rotaru , but only finished ninth two weeks later at the German Championships . There she reached the final with a new season best of 6.84 m with her first jump in qualification, in which she finished sixth with 6.79 m.

After a bilateral patellar tendon irritation in December 2015 , Mihambo was only able to start the season at the beginning of May 2016 at the training camp in Belek, Turkey . In a market characterized by strong prevailing winds competition at the German Championships in Kassel Mihambo was on June 18, with a width of 6.72 m for the first time German champion before Alexandra Wester and Maryse Luzolo , on grounds of illegal tailwind but the winner's distance was not as the fulfillment of the DLV recognized qualification standard (6.70 m) for the Olympic Games . The time achieved there of 11.21 s was below the qualification standard for the World Championships in Doha . In the long jump, Mihambo defended her German championship title with a new personal best of 7.16 m. It was also the new world record for the year and the third best distance in German long jump history.

In October she was able to increase her best performance in the long jump at the World Championships in Doha to 7.30 m and thus became world champion. With this distance she is the twelfth best long jumper of all time and the second best German athlete, only Heike Drechsler jumped 7.48 m further than Mihambo. According to the IAAF points rating, Mihambo's 7.30 meter jump was the best cross-discipline women's performance at the World Championships in Doha. On December 15, 2019, Mihambo was honored as Germany's Sportswoman of the Year 2019 in Baden-Baden .

2020 and 2021

On February 14th, Mihambo jumped the 7-meter mark in the hall for the first time at the ISTAF Indoor in Berlin and set a personal best in the hall with 7.07 m. At the end of the year she was again named Germany's Sportswoman of the Year .

On August 2, 2021, Mihambo won the long jump competition at the Olympic Games in Tokyo with a final jump of 7.00 m .

On December 19, 2021, Mihambo was named Sportswoman of the Year for the third time .

Club affiliations and trainers

Mihambo starts for TSV Oftersheim in the LG Kurpfalz and has been trained by Ralf Weber since she was eleven. In 2020 Weber ended the collaboration for personal reasons and Mihambo announced that he would train in the USA with Carl Lewis (long jump) and Leroy Burrell (sprint) in the future . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , she was initially unable to implement this plan and has been trained by national coach Ulrich Knapp since June 2020.

Yoga interest

Mihambo's closeness to yoga became known when she meditated during breaks at competitions. In an interview with Yoga Journal , she reported on the background. She said that her mother practiced yoga and meditation and had traveled to India . Therefore, she has been familiar with these topics since childhood, but has only been practicing regularly in one form or another since 2018. Meditation opened up a new space for her, the space to herself. Physical yoga exercises were also part of her program, for example in preparation for strenuous training, and she also preferred a vegetarian and vegan diet and tried to be responsible for the environment.

She does not follow any specific yoga direction, but instead uses Zen meditations, mantras , breathing techniques, visualizations or a short inner focus depending on the situation . During a competition, one should be careful not to allow negative streams of thought to carry you away. When she won the gold medal in Tokyo, it was first and foremost important to her to be able to master her mind and her body. The gold actually stands for the inner path that she has taken.
