Anișoara Stanciu

Anișoara Stanciu (birth name Anișoara Cușmir ; born June 28, 1962 in Brăila ) is a former Romanian long jumper .

On August 1, 1982, the two young Romanian long jumpers Vali Ionescu and Anişoara Cuşmir improved the world record in long jump in a competition, which until then stood at 7.09. First Cuşmir came to 7.15, then Ionescu increased to 7.20. This made the two Romanians favorites for the 1982 European Athletics Championships , which took place in Athens at the beginning of September . Vali Ionescu won with 6.79 in front of Anişoara Cuşmir with 6.73. Jelena Iwanowa from the USSR was third with 6.73. Heike Daute came fourth with 6.71, and after her marriage she would write long jump history under the name Heike Drechsler .

On May 15, 1983 Anişoara Cuşmir jumped a new world record in Bucharest with 7.21. Almost three weeks later on June 4, 1983, again in Bucharest, she improved the world record from 7.27 to 7.43. This is the largest increase in the long jump world record for women to date. At the world championships in 1983 there was a final on August 14th, in which four jumpers came over 7 meters, but the wind support was sometimes considerable. Heike Daute won with 7.27w in front of Anisoara Cuşmir with 7.15w. Both jumpers also had a regular seven meter jump in their series.

At the end of 1983 Cuşmir married the sprinter Paul Stanciu.

The 1984 Olympic Games were boycotted by the Eastern Bloc, and so Heike Drechsler, who is now married, did not compete. Romania, however, competed and so Anișoara Stanciu was of course the big favorite as the reigning world record holder and runner-up. She was able to live up to this role in her victory with 6.96. Vali Ionescu was second with 6.81.

Shortly thereafter, Anișoara Cușmir withdrew from competitive sports. With a height of 1.73 m, her competition weight was 65 kg.
