Vali Ionescu-Constantin (also Valeria Ionescu ; born August 31, 1960 in Turnu Măgurele ) is a former Romanian long jumper .

Vali Ionescu won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in 1982 behind the two West German Sabine Everts and Karin Hänel with a score of 6.52.

On August 1, 1982, Ionescu and her compatriot Anişoara Cuşmir improved the world record in the long jump, which until then stood at 7.09. First Cuşmir came to 7.15, then Ionescu increased to 7.20. This made the two Romanians favorites for the European Championships , which took place in Athens at the beginning of September . Ionescu won with 6.79 before Cuşmir with 6.73. Third place went to Russian Jelena Iwanowa , also with 6.73. Heike Daute came fourth with 6.71, and after her marriage she would write long jump history under the name Heike Drechsler .

At the World Championships in 1983 Ionescu retired with 6.62 as ninth in the preliminary fight. Heike Daute was world champion ahead of Anișoara Cușmir.

The 1984 Olympic Games were boycotted by the Eastern Bloc, and so Heike Drechsler, who is now married, did not compete. But Romania stepped up and Anişoara Stanciu, as Cuşmir was now called, who had also married, won with 6.96 before Vali Ionescu with 6.81.

At the European Championships in 1986 , Ionescu finished fourth with 6.81.

With a height of 1.72 m, her competition weight was 64 kg.
