TSV Oftersheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The TSV 1895 Oftersheim ( Turn- und Sportverein 1895 Oftersheim eV ) is a traditional sports club in the northern Baden community of Oftersheim . The club became known through the sporting successes of its handball teams.

The club was founded under this name in 1936 as a merger of the two Oftersheim clubs, Turngesellschaft 1895 and Turn- und Sportgemeinde . In 1997 the handball department of TSV formed a syndicate with TV Schwetzingen from the neighboring municipality of Schwetzingen , the HG Oftersheim / Schwetzingen (HGO).

Handball

Handball - in Germany this meant field handball until the middle of the 20th century - has been played in Oftersheim in two clubs since 1922, the gymnastics society in 1895 and the gymnastics association "Jahn" . These took part in various umbrella associations in the then very little regulated game operations and celebrated regional successes. In 1934 the handball players of the Turnerbund founded a new club, the gymnastics and sports community , in 1936 the merger with the gymnastics company took place in 1895 to form TSV Oftersheim .

The Oftersheim field handball players had their strongest phase in the 1970s. In 1970 the TSV won the regional league championship of the South German Regional Association, prevailed in the qualification for the field handball Bundesliga and played in the top division of this sport from the 1971 season until the end of the official Bundesliga game operations in 1973.

After indoor handball had finally replaced field handball, it took the TSV a decade before high-class handball was played again: In 1983, they were promoted to the southern group of the then two-part 2nd handball Bundesliga , where the club initially settled from the 1983/84 season could last until 1991.

In the game community HG Oftersheim / Schwetzingen then again succeeded in the 2004/05 season promotion to the second highest division, where the HGO played until 2009. HG Oftersheim / Schwetzingen has been back in the 3rd Bundesliga since 2016 .

The male C-youth of TSV Oftersheim won the last German championship played in this age group in 1994.

eSport Rhein-Neckar is the esports department of TSV 1895 Oftersheim eV As Germany's first amateur sports club with an esports department, TSV Oftersheim has been involved in eSports since December 2016 . In addition, the TSV is a founding member of the eSport-Bund Deutschland (ESBD). The esports department was renamed "eSport Rhein-Neckar", ERN for short, on June 1, 2018.

The eSport Rhein-Neckar operates regionally and nationally, both in popular sports and in competitive sports. The motivation for the engagement is diverse. On the one hand, eSport Rhein-Neckar wants to support the players in training and thereby lead them to tournament success. On the other hand, it's also about having fun and promoting the community. The eSport Rhein-Neckar sees it as its responsibility to support the players in their physical and mental health, with the aim of making the players better e-athletes in the long term.
