Ellen Wessinghage (née Tittel, divorced Wellmann; born June 28, 1948 in Mühlbach , Saxony ) is a former German medium and long-distance runner who, starting for the Federal Republic of Germany , was among the world's top 1,500 meters in the 1970s . In 1975 she was voted Sportswoman of the Year in the Federal Republic of Germany .

Her greatest success is the bronze medal at the European Championships in 1971 (4: 10.3 min). It also started at the 1972 Olympic Games , the 1976 Olympic Games and the 1974 European Championships , but without any medal successes.

Further successes: in 1970 she won the 1500 meter run in the European Cup final. 1970 to 1975 she was German champion in the 1500 meter run (1970 to 1973 under her maiden name Ellen Tittel). 1974 student world champion over 3000 meters; 1980 German champion in cross-country , middle-distance and long-distance running.

In the 1980s she tried her hand at longer distances and achieved 8: 56.77 min (1981) in the 3000-meter run, 15: 34.76 min (1981) in the 5000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run 32: 52.93 min. In 1984 she won the Murten run over 17.2 km.

She is a total of 38 times German champion and has played 40 international matches.

In 1975 the lawyer married the middle-distance runner Paul-Heinz Wellmann (1976 Olympic bronze in the 1500-meter run); in her second marriage she was married to Thomas Wessinghage (5000 meter European champion 1982). She is a member of the Presidium of the State Sports Federation of Rhineland-Palatinate and in this role she is responsible for the “Women in Sport” department. She heads the state working group "Women in Sport".

She has also been chairwoman of the Boehringer Ingelheim tennis club since April 2004. In 2004 she was the overall winner in the W 55 age group on the half marathon course of the Gutenberg Marathon in 1:24:56 h.

Ellen Wessinghage started for the TuS 04 Leverkusen club , USC Mainz and Rot-Weiß Koblenz . She is 1.58 m tall and weighed 44 kg during her active time.

In 1975 she received the Silver Bravo Otto from the youth magazine BRAVO.
