Paula Ivan ( maiden name Ilie ; born July 20, 1963 in Heresti ) is a former Romanian middle and long distance runner who became Olympic champion in 1988 .

In 1987 she was ninth at the World Cross Country Championships .

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , she won the gold medal in the 1,500 meter run ahead of Laima Baikauskaitė and Tetjana Samolenko-Dorowskych (both URS), and in the 3,000 meter run she won the silver medal behind Tetjana Samolenko-Dorowskych (gold) and before Yvonne Murray (GBR).
