Natalia Mărăşescu

Natalia Mărășescu (born Andrei, temporarily Betini ; born October 3, 1952 in Căpreni , Gorj County ) is a former Romanian medium and long-distance runner .

Life

At the European Athletics Championships in Rome in 1974 , she was fourth over 3000 m . In 1975 she won the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Katowice over 1500 m and won gold over 3000 m and silver over 1500 m at the Universiade . In 1976 she won silver over the same distance at the European Indoor Championships in Munich and reached the semi-finals at the Olympic Games in Montreal . The following year she was again second at the Universiade over 1500 m.

In 1978 she won silver at the European Indoor Championships in Milan over 1500 m and at the World Cross Country Championships in Glasgow , where she won gold with the Romanian team. In the summer, silver medals over 1500 m and 3000 m followed at the European Athletics Championships in Prague .

In 1979 she won over 1500 m at the European Indoor Championships in Vienna and at the Universiade. Shortly thereafter, she was in the Balkans playing a positive effect on anabolic steroids tested . The resulting ban for this violation of the doping regulations was reduced from 18 to eight months, so that they could start at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. There she was ninth in the 1500 m.

Five times she was Romanian champion over 1500 m (1970, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979), four times over 3000 m (1975, 1976, 1978, 1979) and once in cross country (1976). In 1979 she became the Soviet champion over 1500 m. she set a world record in the mile run twice .
