Balkan Games
The Balkan Games ( Bulgarian and Macedonian Балкански игри Balkanski igri ; Greek Βαλκανικοί Αγώνες Στίβου Valkanikí agones Stívou ; Romanian Jocurile balcanice ; Serbian Балканске игре igre Balkanske ; Albanian Lojërat Ballkanike ; Turkish Balkan Oyunları ) are since 1930 regularly conducted international competitions in the Balkans in track and field disciplines.
The first, still unofficial, Balkan Games were held in 1929. Officially held from 1930 onwards, they were held annually until 1940 and then reintroduced (with occasional interruptions) in 1953. In 1946 and 1947 two unofficial Balkan Games took place ( Balkan and Central European Games ), which were not recognized by all participating states in the Balkan Games.
In recent years the Balkan Games in the various disciplines have increasingly been held at different times and also at different competition locations, so that it is practically only a loose combination of Balkan championships.
