2000 meter run
The 2000 meter run is an athletics discipline . There are five rounds of the stadium to complete. The start takes place at the 100-meter goal while standing ("high start") from a curved starting line, the so-called involute . The 2,000-meter race belongs to the 800- and 1,500-meter run to the medium range , but is different from this one rarely spilled medium-range distance. At the ISTAF Berlin there is a run over this distance.
Records
The official world record for men is 4: 44.79 minutes and was set by Hicham El Guerrouj at the ISTAF in Berlin in 1999 . The official world record for women is 5: 25.36 minutes and was set in 1994 by Sonia O'Sullivan .
Sonia O'Sullivan holds the European record for women , Jakob Ingebrigtsen ran for men on June 11, 2020 in Oslo 4: 50.01 min.
The German best performance is 5: 37.62 minutes by Ulrike Bruns in 1985, in the men's category Thomas Wessinghage ran the course in 4: 52.20 minutes in 1982.
