Eckart Würzner

Eckart Würzner (born October 10, 1961 in Goslar ) is a German politician without a party . He has been Lord Mayor of Heidelberg since 2006 . The studied geographer is supported by the local party branches of the CDU , the FDP as well as the Free Voters and the electoral association Die Heidelberger and was re-elected in 2014. Würzner is Deputy President of the German Association of Cities .

Life and work

After Würzner graduated from high school in Hochdahl near Düsseldorf in 1982, he studied geography as a diploma course from 1982 to 1987 as well as geology and law as minor subjects in Mannheim and Heidelberg . In Heidelberg he was active in the Corps Suevia. Subsequently, he did his doctorate on the subject of a comparative case study on the potential effects of atmospheric environmental pollution on mortality in agglomerations for the area of ​​metropolitan areas in Germany and the greater Paris area .

In 1988 Würzner became an environmental consultant in the Office for Environmental Protection, Trade Inspection and Energy of the City of Heidelberg . In this office he was then from 1991 to 1997 head of the “Technical Environmental Protection” department. Since 1997 he has been the managing director of the regional climate protection and energy consulting agency Heidelberg Neighboring Communities gGmbH (KLIBA). From the end of 1997 to the end of 1999, he was given additional tasks to head the environmental and energy management department and the deputy head of the office for environmental protection and health promotion. From the beginning of 2000 to March 2001 he was head of the Office for Environmental Protection, Energy and Health Promotion.

Since 1998, Würzner has been teaching at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the SRH Hochschule Heidelberg and leads internships and seminars in the areas of energy and environmental management , sustainability and project management. In the years 1991 to 2000 he published scientific and project-oriented writings, which focus on the environment. In May 2016, Würzner was appointed honorary professor by the SRH University of Heidelberg.

In 2001 Würzner was elected mayor for the environment and energy of Heidelberg by the local council. In November 2006, he was elected mayor of Heidelberg to succeed Beate Weber . The inauguration took place on December 14, 2006. In the mayor election on October 19, 2014, he was re-elected with a turnout of 21.80% with 84.44%, the SPD and the Greens had not put up a candidate.

Würzner is married and has four children.
