Narada Theosophical Society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Narada Theosophical Society (Theosophical Society Narada, sometimes also Tacoma Theosophical Society ) is a theosophical organization which occupies a hybrid position between independence and connection to parent societies. It is, unique in the theosophical world, both autonomous and lodge of the Theosophical Society Adyar and the Theosophical Society Pasadena . The company is based in Tacoma in the US state of Washington .

history

The Narada Theosophical Society (NTS) was founded by geologist and surveyor Fred Gordon Plummer . The Theosophical Society (TG) issued the first foundation deed of the NTS on January 7, 1890 , this document attested to the Tacoma Lodge , as the lodge was then called, the official membership of the TG. In 1895 the TG split into two competing societies as a result of the Judge Case , on the one hand the Theosophical Society Adyar (Adyar-TG) and on the other hand the Theosophical Society in America (TGinA). The NTS followed the TGinA direction, the deed of foundation was issued by William Quan Judge on 28/29. Changed April 1895, with Judge recognizing the autonomy of the NTS. When the TGinA under Katherine Tingley their names on Universal Brotherhood and Theosophical Society changed (UBTs), the NTS received by February 18, 1898 a renewed certificate with the same rights. After some members wanted to join the Adyar-TG, this was put into practice and they also received a deed of foundation dated January 1899 with a clause that continued to guarantee their autonomy.

From this point onwards, the NTS was both a member of the Adyar-TG and the UBTS and was still autonomous. The UBTS changed its name several times in a row and now operates under the Theosophical Society Pasadena (TG-Pasadena), which until then has never questioned the special position of the NTS and has faced the situation with goodwill. In contrast, the Adyar-TG, which in 1989 demanded that the NTS adapt its statutes to those of the parent company. This would have meant the loss of autonomy for the NTS and at the same time would have resulted in exclusion from the TG-Pasadena, as membership in several Theosophical Societies was not permitted. The NTS consequently refused to take this step. In October 2004 this request came up again and was rejected again. As a result, the Adyar-TG tried to fill leading positions at the NTS with their followers, which ultimately led to legal disputes that severely polluted the climate. The behavior of the Adyar-TG led to resentment in other theosophical societies.

aims

The goals of the NTS are similar to those of the other Theosophical Societies (see Goals of the Theosophical Society ):

  • To explore the hidden secrets of nature, the mind and the spiritual forces.
  • To promote the study of world religions and sciences.
  • To form an all-embracing brotherhood of men.
