Energy Cities

Energy Cities represents the union of European municipalities that have set themselves a long-term local energy policy. 200 members from 30 countries representing over 1000 cities are represented by Energy Cities. They are committed to a sustainable energy policy in their communities.

The city of Heidelberg has held the presidency of the network since 2009. Energy Cities was founded in 1990 as an association of European cities and municipalities and their local networks and associations. Energy Cities has an office in Brussels (BE), the secretariat is in Besançon (FR).

At the end of 2015, Energy Cities formed the second major city network, the Covenant of Mayors, and the C40 city network, Compact of Mayors, to form the Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy ) merged. The new network will officially begin its work on January 1, 2017.
