Bornova is a district in the province of Izmir and is also part of the city of Izmir in Turkey . After a regional reform, the city is identical in terms of population and area to the district. It is one of the larger parts of Izmir, 8 kilometers from Izmir city center and 5 kilometers from the coast.
Bornova used to be called Birunabad . In Persian , birun means outside, outside and abad means an Islamic city.
Bornova is one of the most densely populated districts in the province. The area is 224 km².

Economy and Infrastructure
In recent years the infrastructure in Bornova has improved a lot. The Izmir - Aydın motorway was expanded and connections to Kemalpaşa and Altındağ were expanded. In addition, the İzmir Metro was put into operation, the terminus of which is in Bornova. The industrial situation in Bornova has also improved, with service providers and smaller companies making up the majority. An IKEA branch was also opened. Ege Üniversitesi is located in Bornova .
