history
Gaziemir was first mentioned in the 14th century by Gazi Umur Bey in connection with Aydın and the Yörük clans of Konya . The development of the city can be followed through the centuries by means of the regular references of the Ottomans . Olives , figs , cotton and raisins have been exported from here since the 17th century up to the present day .
The Greek population, which until then was the majority of the population of the city, was exchanged after the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922) and replaced by Turkish immigrants from the Kavala region in Greece and Bulgaria . Seydikoy became a municipality in 1926 and was renamed Gaziemir after the original founder, Gazi Umur Bey .
