Balçova is a district of the Turkish province of Izmir and at the same time a district of the Büyükşehir Belediyesi (city municipality) Izmir . After a regional reform, the city is identical in terms of population and area to the district.
geography
Balçova is located west of the city center on the southern bank of the Gulf of Smyrna ( Turkish İzmir körfezi ). The district borders on Narlıdere to the west, Karabağlar and Buca to the south and Konak , the center of the city, to the east . In the north is the Gulf of Izmir with the İnciraltı beach, a lagoon and the capes Çakal Burnu in the east and Yeni Kale Burnu in the west. In the center of the district is the mountain Atatepe with a recreation area and a viewing platform, to which the 1000 meter long Teleferik cable car leads. To the south of this is the Balçova Barajı reservoir .
The Izmir University of Economics ( İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi ) and a ship museum are located in Balçova .
Sports
Under the leadership of Mayor Mehmet Ali Çalkaya, the city administration bought its competition and naming rights from the amateur club Fahrettin Altay SK in the summer of 2012 and then took part in the competition with their newly founded company soccer team Balçova Belediyespor . In the first season the club celebrated promotion to the TFF 3rd Lig , the fourth highest Turkish league in professional football.
