Master plan municipality
Masterplan municipalities have committed to their greenhouse gas - emissions by 2050 by 95 percent compared to 1990 and the final energy to reduce -Consumption by 50 percent. On the way to achieving these goals, they will be funded for four years by the Federal Environment Ministry (BMUB) as part of the National Climate Protection Initiative. The funding is scientifically supported.
The objectives of the master plan project were inspired by the decision of the European Council in October 2009 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 to 95 percent compared to 1990 levels by 2050. This resolution is to be implemented "ambitiously" in Germany with a greenhouse gas reduction of 95 percent.
First funding round 2012
In the first round in 2012, 19 municipalities that had qualified in the Master Plan 100% Climate Protection competition took part. The funding volume was 9.5 million euros. The funding period was set for four years. The aim was the 100 percent implementation of the energy transition through a 100 percent switch to renewable energies in the areas of electricity, heat and mobility.
Among other things, the position of a "climate protection manager" was funded, who was supposed to coordinate the implementation of the master plan for 100% climate protection .
The municipalities from the first funding round have the chance to apply for a two-year follow-up funding to “strengthen civil society processes on the way to 100% climate protection”.
Second funding round 2016
In mid-2016, 22 more municipalities were added. The funding volume is 12 million euros.
The aim is u. a. a "significant reduction in emissions in industry and agriculture". “Citizens also have to participate and be prepared for a sustainable lifestyle.” “One of the most important tasks” is to create acceptance for the upcoming changes.
