Aldo Haïk

Aldo Haïk (born October 19, 1952 in Tunis ) is a French chess player .

Haïk was one of the strongest French players in the 1970s and 1980s. He won the French championship in 1972 and 1983, and in 1977 became the second French player (after André Muffang , who was awarded the title in 1951) to be named International Master .

Haïk took part in the 1972 , 1978 , 1980 , 1982 , 1984 , 1986 and 1988 Chess Olympiads with the French national team and achieved the best individual result on the second reserve board in 1972 (he was also nominated for the 1976 Chess Olympiad , but was not used) . He also took part with France in the 1985 World Team Championship and the 1989 European Team Championship.

Haïk played club chess for the Lyon-Oyonnax team , with whom he took part in the 1992 European Club Cup , and in the German Bundesliga he was registered for the Hamburg SK team in the 1985/86 season , but remained unused. Haïk's Elo number is 2384 (as of August 2019), his highest Elo number of 2475 he reached in January 1986.

Haïk wrote the chess column in Le Figaro newspaper from June 1977 until the column was closed in December 2011.
