Jazmin Jane Sawyers (born May 21, 1994 ) is a British long jumper and bobsledder .
athletics
International experience gained Jazmin Sawyers at the Youth World Championships in 2011 near Lille , where they ranked ninth in points with 5296 Heptathlon occupied. In the following year she won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona with 6.67 m and the silver medal at the 2013 Junior European Championships in Rieti with 6.63 m. In 2014 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time and won the silver medal behind the Nigerian Ese Brume starting for England with a width of 6.54 m . Another silver medal followed in 2015 at the U23 European Championships in Tallinn , where she only had to admit defeat to the German Malaika Mihambo with 6.71 m . In 2016 she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Portland and reached 13th place with 6.31 m. Then she won the silver medal behind Ivana Španović from Serbia at the European Championships in Amsterdam with 6.86 m . This qualified her for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she finished eighth with 6.69 m in the final .
In 2017 she was sixth at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade with 6.67 m. In August she again took part in the World Championships in London , but this time retired with 6.34 m in the preliminary round . The following year she finished seventh at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast with 6.35 m and fourth at the European Championships in Berlin with a width of 6.67 m.
In 2016, Sawyer became the British Champion in indoor and outdoor long jump. She graduated from the University of Bristol with a degree in criminology and law . She is also active as a singer and songwriter.
Winter sports
In winter, Sawyers competes in bobsleigh as a pusher . With pilot Mica McNeill , she won the silver medal at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck . Already in the preseason she made her debut alongside Kirsten Emery in the Bobsleigh European Cup in Igls and finished 19th in two races.
