The Ostfriesen-Zeitung (OZ) is a regional daily newspaper for East Friesland (districts Aurich , Leer and Wittmund , city ​​of Emden ) and appears in the newspaper group Ostfriesland (ZGO) in Leer (East Friesland) . The sold circulation is 30,730 copies, a decrease of 25.2 percent since 1998.

history

The history of the newspaper goes back to 1848, when the Leeraner Abendblatt appeared for the first time on April 15th . At first it only appeared on Tuesdays and Saturdays with a length of four pages. More publication days and additional pages were added later. In 1936 the title changed to Ostfriesische Tageszeitung .

After the end of the Second World War, the Ostfriesen-Zeitung appeared for the first time on September 1, 1949 . It was a sub-edition of the Oldenburger Nordwest-Zeitung for the Aurich administrative region. On November 1, 1950, the four East Frisian publishers founded the Ostfriesen-Zeitung GmbH. Until 1956, the newspaper in Leer was printed by the Rautenberg printing company, when the Leer-based printing company took over DH Zopfs und Sohn. The newspaper editorial office and administration were also located there.

In 2002 the ZGO emerged from the merger of OZ and General-Anzeiger . The Nordwest-Zeitung in Oldenburg was involved in the ZGO until October 2007, but sold its shares because of concerns from the Federal Cartel Office .

Frequency of publication

The Ostfriesen-Zeitung appears as a morning newspaper six times a week (Monday to Saturday) in Berlin format in the four partial editions Leer, Emden / Norden, Aurich / Wittmund and Rheiderland. The sold edition is 30,730 copies. The editorial office is based in Leer . In addition to this editorial office, which also includes a local editorial office in Weener , there are two other district editorial offices in Aurich (with Wiesmoor and Wittmund ) and in Emden (with Norden ). In addition, the editing of the General-Anzeiger for the Leeraner edition of the OZ works similarly to a local editorial office. Joachim Braun has been editor-in-chief of the Ostfriesen-Zeitung since November 2018 , and he is also editor-in-chief of the General-Anzeiger .

The OZ offers content on its website, some of which is free of charge. However, the complete editions of the Ostfriesen-Zeitung are available for a fee as so-called e-papers . There is also free video news from the region under the name ostfriesen.tv .
