German athletics all-around championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

German all- around championships in athletics are held after the Second World War from 1946. Until the last German championships during the Second World War in 1943 , the all-around competitions were part of the German athletics championships and not an independent event.

German championships in the men's decathlon have existed since 1911. From 1937 to 1973 there was also the one-day pentathlon . For women there was a three-way battle between 1925 and 1927, which from 1928 was expanded to become a pentathlon held on two consecutive days. From 1981, the now common was then Heptathlon held. The women's decathlon, which has been taking place occasionally for a number of years, has not yet been taken into account in the championship competitions.

In the GDR , the first all-around championships took place in Berlin from September 23 to 24, 1950 .

The temporal and spatial outsourcing of the all-round competitions has two reasons: On the one hand, it enables the athletes to start in individual disciplines. Again and again, the performances of all-rounders in their parade disciplines approach the best performances of specialists, up to the championship title. On the other hand, the outsourcing relieves the tight schedule of the championships. However, the national and international championships, which usually take place a few weeks apart, often mean that the best German all-rounders do not take part in the national championships. For example, the German all-around championships in 2016 took place during the Olympic Games , those of 2017 on the last weekend of the World Athletics Championships .

In addition to the open-air competitions , indoor all-around championships also take place.

The all-around championships are for different age groups and at different regional levels.

The organizer is the German Athletics Association (DLV) . Organizers are the regional association belonging to the venue and a sports club at the venue. In recent years it has become increasingly difficult to find a host club, so that the championships of 2015 could not take place due to a lack of organizers. The all-around championships in 2016 and 2017 were held at the Kienbaum Federal Training Center.

history

A pentathlon was held for the first time in 708 BCE at the Ancient Olympic Games . It consisted of a discus throw , long jump , javelin throw , stadium run (“one stadium” = 192.2 m) and rings .

In the Middle Ages , every knightly man had to train himself in seven disciplines: horse riding , swimming , shooting , climbing , fencing , wrestling and dancing .

In the 18th century, the philanthropists consciously referred to the Greek model and, in addition to general physical education, promoted a pentathlon of running, jumping , climbing, balancing and carrying.
