Feuerbach district town hall

The former city of Feuerbach is now a district of Stuttgart . It owes its name to the Feuerbach . Neighboring districts are Zuffenhausen , Bad Cannstatt , S-Nord , S-West , Botnang and Weilimdorf .

geography

The Lemberg is a 384 m high hill between the Stuttgart districts of Weilimdorf and Feuerbach. There is also a small old quarry, popularly known as "Kotzenloch".

history

The Feuerbacher Lemberg was already in the Hallstatt period , 800–900 BC. BC, and the Latène period , around 400 BC. BC, populated.

In the High Middle Ages, Feuerbach was owned by the Counts of Calw . The first documentary mention comes from the year 1075, at that time still under the name Biberbach. The Kloster Hirsau got around the year 1075 by the Count of Calw half the church and the farm estate Botnang.

The community was later called Fürbach, from which the name Feuerbach developed by the end of the 16th century. At the end of the 12th century, Feuerbach came into the possession of the Count Palatine of Tübingen . From the early 13th century onwards, Frauenberg Castle lay over the village , but it was already demolished at the beginning of the 16th century. In the 15th century, the Counts of Württemberg gradually acquired all rights to rule over Feuerbach. The place was subordinated to the Stuttgart office. In 1504, a plague epidemic in Feuerbach claimed 301 deaths; in the Thirty Years' War after the lost battle of Nördlingen and the military occupation and sacking of Württemberg by the emperor's troops, as many as 527 people died in Feuerbach in 1634/35.

From 1719 to 1736 Feuerbach was temporarily assigned to the Cannstatt Office, but then remained with the Stuttgart District Office . At the time of the Kingdom of Württemberg , Feuerbach continued to have a predominantly rural character until around 1860. In addition to normal agriculture, there was still wine-growing on 140 hectares (today 15 hectares) and there were quarries on Killesberg . Remnants of it can still be seen there today. In 1848 the first railway tunnel between Stuttgart and Feuerbach was inaugurated. With the opening of the Zentralbahn and the train station in the same year by the Württemberg State Railways , rapid industrial development began. The electrotechnical factory Robert Bosch ( AG from 1917 to 1937 ), built from 1910 and now known worldwide as Robert Bosch GmbH , became the largest company in Feuerbach .

In 1904, pastor Richard Kallee discovered several Alemannic sandstone graves in the grave field on Schlosserstraße , which he researched until the end of his life by excavating over 100 graves, from which a total of 760 finds were recovered. On November 4, 1926, under his direction, the Feuerbach Local History Museum was inaugurated, the most important finds of which are now on display in the foyer of the Feuerbach district town hall. In 1971, a little above the Feuerbacher Heide, during earthworks, the remains of the wall of the former Frauenberg castle were found . The foundation walls of the former keep were exposed.

Districts

On March 15, 1907, Feuerbach was made a town, and in 1929 Feuerbach and Weil voluntarily merged in the village . On May 1, 1933, the town of Feuerbach-Weil in the village was forcibly incorporated into Stuttgart and listed as the “Feuerbach district”. Some central streets and squares in Feuerbach were given new names in honor of Adolf Hitler with reference to Austria, which they still have today, such as Wiener Strasse, Grazerstrasse or Steiermärker Strasse. Only Ostmarkstrasse has since been renamed again.

When the city of Stuttgart was divided into districts in 1956, the Feuerbach district was declared the Feuerbach district , and when the Stuttgart districts were reorganized on January 1, 2001, Feuerbach was divided into the following districts

  • At the castle
  • Feuerbach train station
  • Feuerbach center
  • Feuerbach-Ost
  • Feuerbacher valley
  • High wait
  • Lemberg / Föhrich
  • Siegelberg

Both bunkers are listed buildings and are run by the Schutzbauten Stuttgart e. V., who regularly organize guided tours in these buildings.
