Feuerbach indoor swimming pool

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Feuerbach indoor swimming pool is an indoor swimming pool in the Feuerbach district of Stuttgart . It has been recognized as a cultural monument according to § 2 DSchG BW since January 2000 .

History and architecture

The building was built according to plans by Manfred Lehmbruck , who had already successfully participated in a competition for the Stadtbad Mitte in Frankfurt am Main in 1953 (with a design that was not implemented). Construction of the pool in Stuttgart-Feuerbach began in September 1959. It was opened in March 1964.

The swimming pool, which is erected on a flat base, adjoins a building block in front of the Wiener Straße to the southeast. It consists of a tent-like structure made of light metal with a light glass facade on the three sides facing away from the entrance building. The glass facade was designed by HAP Grieshaber in 1962 . At the top, the hall is closed off by a concrete suspended roof, which is supported on the closed side by concrete pillars and on the glazed sides by steel supports. The entrance building, the main entrance of which is emphasized by a narrow canopy, accommodates the cash desk and changing area. The Louis Leitz Commercial School is located in the same building.

The indoor pool was thoroughly renovated by autumn 2019.
