The Stuttgart Newspaper Group (ZGS) is one of the five corporate divisions of Südwestdeutsche Medien Holding (SWMH), or one of the two that report to Mediengruppe Süd GmbH (MGS) . It comprises the majority holdings of the Stuttgarter Zeitung Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG and the Württemberger Zeitung GmbH . The main shareholders of SWMH are Medien Union GmbH , based in Ludwigshafen, and the Württembergischer Verleger (GWV) group, each with 47.5409%.

Holdings

The ZGS is involved in newspapers, advertising papers, a radio station, a web service provider, several advertising and sales companies, a mail delivery service, and technical service providers (printing, etc.).

Newspapers

  • Stuttgarter Nachrichten Verlagsgesellschaft mbH (SWMH stake: 80%; mainly publishes the Stuttgarter Nachrichten )
  • Stuttgarter Zeitung Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG (SWMH stake: 100%; mainly publishes the Stuttgarter Zeitung and its local editions) and the Sunday newspaper Sonntag Aktuell . Until the beginning of 2007, the heirs of Erich Schairer, one of the co-editors of the first post-war years, held a 25% stake in the Stuttgarter Zeitung Verlagsgesellschaft, but they sold their shares to SWMH retrospectively on January 1, 2007.

  • Sonntag Aktuell : second largest Sunday newspaper in Germany (according to Bild am Sonntag ); for subscribers to the Stuttgarter Zeitung , Stuttgarter Nachrichten and 44 other newspapers in the entire south-west of Germany. Sold circulation around 660,000; three editions: Stuttgart, Ulm and Rhein-Neckar.

  • Fellbacher Wochenblatt : Circulation around 28,500 copies
  • Leonberger Wochenblatt (including Heckengäu Rundschau ): circulation over 52,500 copies / Strohgäu Wochenblatt : circulation around 22,500 copies
  • Kornwestheimer Stadtanzeiger : reach around 15,000 households
  • Marbacher Stadtanzeiger : Circulation around 23,500 copies
  • IWZ Illustrierte Wochenzeitung (first edition: 1973; discontinued: 2004)

Radio station

  • Antenna 1 : largest private radio station in Baden-Württemberg (265,000 listeners per average hour, 1,552 million listeners daily); indirect participation of ZGS through the main shareholder SWMH

Web service provider

  • SIR Stuttgart Internet Regional: prepares the editorial part of the Stuttgarter Zeitung and the Stuttgarter Nachrichten for their internet portals and enriches it with advertisements and advertising.

  • The Märkische Oderzeitung : with eleven local editions belonged to the Stuttgarter Zeitung Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG . and Neue Pressegesellschaft mbh & Co. KG ( Südwest-Presse publishing house , Ulm) as partners in equal shares in the Märkische Verlag and printing house that publishes the newspaper. In 2012 the Neue Pressegesellschaft also took over the 50 percent share of the Stuttgarter Zeitung Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG .
