The Leonberger Kreiszeitung was founded on May 23, 1949 . It was the first newspaper in southern Germany that could appear without a license from the US military authorities . From July 1, 1974, the newspaper jacket was obtained from the Stuttgarter Nachrichten .
Until December 2004 the LKZ was an independent newspaper. However, after the publishing house of the Stuttgarter Zeitung had taken over the company shares in the newspaper in the course of the year, the LKZ became a header of the Stuttgarter Zeitung in January 2005 . This was in connection with a general expansion of the regional reporting of the Stuttgarter Zeitung , which was now carried out in a separate book and no longer, as before, only on a double page. Since then, around 30 employees have been working mainly in local editorial and marketing in Leonberg.
