St. Mary of the Assumption

The Catholic Church of the Assumption of Mary in Stuttgart- Feuerbach was built from 1990 to 1995 by the architect Bernhard Haass. It was built in a modern skeleton construction in a baroque style.

It is the largest church of the Priestly Society of St. Pius X in Germany. In addition, the German district of the Brotherhood has its seat here.

history

As early as the 1970s there was a small group of traditional Catholics in Stuttgart . As it grew, the Society established its St. Athanasius Priory here in 1981.

The church was built on a merged plot of land, one part of which used to be residential houses, the other part was a factory site. The construction work began with the laying of the foundation stone in 1990, the exterior of the building was finished in 1993 and the first mass was held, the scaffolding for the remaining painting and plastering work inside could only be removed in 1994. The church consecration took place on April 13, 1997 .

Furnishing

The furnishings by the Allgäu artist Otto Kobel are also based on the Baroque.

The mechanical organ with 17 registers was built by the Mühleisen organ builder in 1995. The side altars were completed on August 15, 2010 by the Augsburg painter Hermengil Peiker.

Bells

In the tower of the church hang five bells with the tones f 1 , g 1 , a 1 , c 2 and d 2 .

St. Athanasius Priory and Congregational Life

The church belongs to the priory of St. Athanasius, which has existed since 1981. Since 1984 it has been the seat of the German District of the Society of Priests.

His five priests and two brothers look after 550–600 believers.
