Louis Leitz (born May 2, 1846 in Großingersheim (Württemberg) ; † May 18, 1918 in Stuttgart ) was the inventor of the Leitz folder that was later named after him .

biography

The trained lathe operator worked as a mechanic at the beginning of industrialization in Germany . He invented as an independent Facturabücher -Fabrikant a first still quite primitive folder for records management. This was continuously developed in the "workshop for the production of metal parts for organizing materials ", which he founded in 1871, as the first lever file with an eccentric lock and space-saving slots in the cover. The revolutionary mechanics can be found almost unchanged in every file folder to this day. In 1911 the grip hole was introduced in the back of the folder.

The traditional company buildings with a symbiosis of old industrial architecture and a modern administration building are still located in Stuttgart's Feuerbach district today .

The Leitz company, based in Stuttgart, has been part of the American ACCO Group since 2016 and operates under the name "LEITZ ACCO Brands GmbH & Co KG".

Leitz found his final resting place in the Pragfriedhof in Stuttgart.
