Picto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Picto ( Pictorial Service ) is the first specialized photographic laboratory in Europe; it was founded in 1950 by Pierre Gassmann in Paris' Rué de la Comète.

Picto made prints for well-known photographers such as Jacques-Henri Lartigue , André Kertész , Robert Doisneau , Martin Munkacsi , Robert Capa and Emmanuel Rudnitzky, better known as Man Ray ; Harper's Bazaar had orders from overseas processed there, and between 1956 and 1978 Picto made numerous prints for the Photokina picture shows. For the Magnum Photos photo agency , Picto was simply "our laboratory" .

Encouraged by its rapid success, Picto set up a rental studio in the 1950s , a concept that FC Gundlach later copied with its Professional Photo Service (PPS) in Hamburg.

Picto now has 12 branches in France and one in South Africa (Cape Town).
