Stammheim is the northernmost district of Stuttgart , located between the Zuffenhausen district in the east and south, the Langen Feld with its fertile, up to 10 m thick layers of loess in the west and northwest and the city of Kornwestheim in the north.
history
In terms of location and history, the conditions are similar to those of these neighboring communities. In contrast to these, Stammheim did not develop from a farming community into an industrial area, but into a quiet residential area with around 11,700 inhabitants (2011). Stammheim is characterized by old residential areas and modern settlements with single and multi-family houses. The open field or allotment garden areas can be reached from any point in a few minutes on foot.
Urban district structure
The formerly independent community of Stammheim, which belonged to the Ludwigsburg Oberamt , was incorporated into Stuttgart on April 1, 1942, and when the city of Stuttgart was divided into districts in 1956, it was declared an independent district. When the Stuttgart districts were reorganized on January 1, 2001, the Stammheim district was divided into the two districts of Stammheim-Mitte and Stammheim-Süd .
traffic
Road traffic
The Stammheim district can be reached via the B 10 ( Karlsruhe - Stuttgart - Ulm ) and via the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen junction of the A 81 . The private car density is high compared to the city of Stuttgart.
Public transportation
Stammheim can also be reached by public transport. Bus routes 99 (from Zuffenhausen to Stammheim), 412 (from Pattonville via Kornwestheim to Stammheim) and 508 (from Ludwigsburg via Möglingen and Stammheim to Zuffenhausen) operate . In the evenings, line 52 runs in the direction of Bad-Cannstatt and on the weekends the N4 night bus runs from / to Schlossplatz. The best way to get there from Stuttgart city center is with the U15 tram (sometimes Heumaden -) Ruhbank / TV tower - main station - Stammheim.
Tram and light rail
On May 13, 1950, the tram connection to Stammheim was opened as the first new line for Stuttgart trams after the Second World War. On May 14, 1950, line 5 on the route from Stammheim to Möhringen took over as scheduled.
The singer wool Kriwanek who lived in Stammheim then, has this time with the song "I muass dui Sroßabaa no Kriega merely dr Fenfer brengt mi hoim ..." (I have this tram still achieve, because only the line 5 makes me home ...) set a musical monument.
By switching from tram to light rail , line 5 was discontinued in 1990 and replaced by line U5, which ran from Möhringen to Stuttgart-Freiberg. Since then, line 15 has been going to Stammheim, which previously ran to Stuttgart-Freiberg. Until December 8, 2007, this led from Stammheim via Zuffenhausen and Stuttgart main station to Ruhbank / TV tower.
As part of the conversion of line 15 from tram to light rail operation, the Olgaeck - Ruhbank / TV tower and Pragfriedhof - Löwentor routes were initially expanded from September 2005 to December 2007, while maintaining the meter gauge for museum traffic and provided with a three - rail track . From 2008 to December 2011, the remaining section between Zuffenhausen and Stammheim was expanded. During the construction phase, the U15 tram only ran to Zuffenhausen; From here until December 10, 2011 there was a replacement rail service to Stammheim with the bus line U15E . In the evening traffic, bus line 52 (Bad Cannstatt - Hallschlag - Burgholzhof - Zuffenhausen - Borkumstraße Neuwirtshaussiedlung (- Stammheim Korntaler Straße) continuously) to Stammheim.
On December 10, 2011, the new light rail line from Zuffenhausen / Rathaus to Stammheim was officially opened. The travel time to the city center was 23 minutes. Since September 14, 2013, after the completion of the U12 to Hallschlag, the U15 no longer takes the small detour via Nordbahnhofstraße, but instead takes a direct route to the city via Heilbronner Straße. This shortens the travel time by 5 to 18 minutes.
