The Vaterstetten sports center is a sports complex located in Vaterstetten , Bavaria , around 17 km east of the state capital Munich . Originally there was no sports facility in Vaterstetten, and the athletes had to move to the neighboring community. At the initiative of track and field athletes and later supported by the 1972 Olympic Games , the planning of sports facilities was tackled. Initially criticized as “gigantomania”, the sports complex has developed into a popular venue. It became the "Mecca" for the all-around championships in athletics . The stadium is home to SC Baldham-Vaterstetten . The second team of TSV 1860 Munich used the sports center as an alternative venue for some games in the second half of the 2012/13 season .

history

In the 1950s, ambitious track and field athletes saw their growth limits at the then only sports club in the community, SC Baldham , reached. On May 2, 1962, they founded TSV Vaterstetten with other sports enthusiasts , but they did not have their own sports field. With the construction of the grammar school in Vaterstetten in 1970, the situation improved somewhat and the athletes were able to train on the 400-meter track. The population and with it the number of members of the TSV rose so rapidly that the call for a larger sports facility became louder and louder. Animated by the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, the Vaterstetten municipal council passed a decision in principle to build a sports field. In the absence of a suitable plot of land, an ideas competition was only called in 1977 under pressure from the sports club and, after tough land negotiations, a suitable plot of land was acquired a year later. On a 160,000 m 2 of land should sports facilities, a youth center , a swimming pool and a community center to be built. The size of the project was described as gigantomania, especially the 460 planned parking spaces for the project, which cost around 17 million marks, met with criticism, as many streets in the community were not even paved at the time. Only two of the four sub-projects were implemented. Construction began on June 1, 1981. Even before the official inauguration, the stadium was christened with a football match between the local fire brigade and a Bavarian radio team , and the athletes celebrated in 1982 with the Bavarian senior championships in the all-round competition . The new sports facility was officially opened on July 3, 1983.

The sports center consists of the stadium and numerous attached sports facilities.
