Germany

Bavaria

In Bavaria, for example, the term local fire brigade appears in Article 5 (2) of the Bavarian Fire Brigade Act as a voluntary fire brigade of a part of the municipality.

Lower Saxony

The individual locations of a communal fire brigade (city or municipality) are referred to as local fire brigade. The local fire brigade is led by the local fire chief . All local fire brigades together form the municipality's volunteer fire brigade. According to the Lower Saxony “Ordinance on Municipal Fire Brigades”, local fire brigades are divided into basic fire brigades, base fire brigades and specialty fire brigades . The minimum equipment (vehicles) and the minimum staffing are also based on the structure.

Saxony-Anhalt

The local fire brigade is led by the local fire brigade ladder and the district fire department by the district military leader. There is no special grade for these functions as in some other federal states. In 2009 the minimum equipment ordinance for fire services was changed. The old division of the local fire brigades and district fire brigades into fire brigades with basic equipment fire brigades, base fire brigades and specialty fire brigades was suspended and a more flexible system was introduced. Then the necessary equipment (vehicles and devices) and the number of functions to be filled must be determined through a risk analysis. The risk analysis must be checked regularly and updated as required. Based on the result of the risk analysis, the municipality determines the need for defensive fire protection and assistance (fire protection needs). With this system, the local fire brigades and district fire brigades and their equipment are adapted to the local conditions.

Austria

In Vorarlberg , a volunteer fire brigade, which performs its tasks in the service of the respective community, is referred to as a local fire brigade according to the fire police regulations .
