The Humboldt Gymnasium Vaterstetten (short: HGV ) is a high school founded in 1970 in Baldham , a district of Vaterstetten , near Munich .

history

On April 13, 1970 the "Gymnasium Vaterstetten" was officially founded, but lessons in the school years 1970/71 and 1971/72 initially took place in the rooms of the elementary school on Gluckstrasse in Baldham, as the grammar school was not built until May 1971 started. It was not until the 1972/73 school year that operations began in the new school building.

In the 1970s, the number of pupils rose rapidly and reached its peak in the 1979/80 school year with 1742 pupils, which was Bavaria's second largest grammar school at the time. With this, the school reached its capacity limits and in 1978 built a temporary container extension.

The construction of a fourth grammar school in the Kirchseeon district to relieve the Vaterstetten school was recommended by the Ebersberg district council in 1980 , but was rejected again due to the falling number of pupils - also due to the opening of the Vaterstetten Realschule in the 1980/81 school year; The Kirchseeon grammar school was not opened until 2008 .

During Peer Frieß's tenure in the 2000s, some groundbreaking changes took place at the school, such as: B. the renaming in 2005 to "Humboldt-Gymnasium Vaterstetten", the establishment of the Elite Funding Foundation (2003), the establishment of the tree-planting campaign for the fifth grade and the planning and completion of the extension in 2007.

In June 2016, it was decided to plan a second extension. A multi-purpose hall as well as further classrooms and specialist rooms are to be built to replace the classrooms that have been outsourced in containers. The building application was approved by the Vaterstetten building committee in June 2020, and the new building should be ready by early 2023.

overview

In the 2018/19 school year, around 1500 students attended the grammar school, who were taught by a total of 99 full-time teachers. The school principal has been Rüdiger Modell since the school year 2008/2009, Marion Freytag his deputy since 2017/2018.

A scientific-technological profile and a linguistic profile are offered. There are also some electives at the school, including Chinese lessons, astronomy and projects such as the school newspaper.

The grammar school is the reference grammar school of the Technical University of Munich and participant in the MODUS F model experiment .

There are also two full-day offers: an open one, the OGTaS (open full-day school, since 2010), in which pupils are looked after with special offers after regular lessons, and all-day classes that attend afternoon classes with intensive lessons every day.

Student exchange

There has been an exchange with Jiading High School 2 in Shanghai since 2005 , which is still ongoing today. There is also an annual exchange with a school in Aix-en-Provence , France . The exchange with Carpentras took place for a short time . Every two years there is an exchange with a school in Belfast ( Ireland ). Students can also take part in an Italian exchange with Genoa .

Elite Funding Foundation

Since 2003, particularly high-performing pupils have been able to receive support in the subjects German and French in a separate program. The prerequisites for this are performance in the respective subject that is well above average. The prizes are awarded at the end of the year. Lower school students receive book prizes, middle school students a foundation trip (in French as an exchange with a school in Argentan, France, or in German as a cultural trip in German-speaking countries, e.g. to Weimar or Vienna ), upper school students receive cash prizes for Training measures.

Accessibility

With the extension completed in 2007, the building had an elevator for the first time. However, some parts of the building are offset in height by half a story, which is why the majority of the HGV remained inaccessible for wheelchair users. It was not until a wheelchair user had been at the school for a few years that another elevator was added to the old building in 2015 to make the atrium, the secretarial hall and some specialist and classrooms accessible. However, the teachers' room, the upper level corridor, the gym stand and most of the classrooms (e.g. the entire west wing) are still not barrier-free.
